Warren Alperstein Provides a Preview of Expected Arguments During Hearings in Freddie Gray Case
Warren S. Alperstein appeared in a recent ABC2 News video where he spoke about the arguments that were expected to be made before the judge during the October 13 hearing in the Freddie Gray case. The issue at hand is whether the statements given by the charged officers during the police department’s internal investigation can be used during the officers’ trials.
“In this situation, what’s going to be argued is that the statement was made under duress, in other words, it wasn’t made voluntarily,” said Mr. Alperstein about the predicted arguments. “They have to illustrate proof that they were coerced into giving their statements, and the only way for that to happen is for the officers as defendants to testify.”
The first trial is set for November 30, 2015.
